2014 Photography Competition – Results!

Thank you to everyone who entered our very first photo competition. We are excited to announce the winners and runners up in all six categories – Twycross Zoo Photographer of the Year, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Zoo Photographer of the Year, Pet Photographer of the Year, Twycross Zoo Staff Photographer of the Year and finally Young Zoo/Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

From Wednesday 12 November we will be displaying the winning images in our Himalaya visitor Centre in a special exhibition. Judges included television presenters Bill Oddie and Professor Alice Roberts, and the competition has been a great success attracting over 300 entries and 1,500 images from people all over the country.

Winning entries include many of our beautiful primates including bonobos, chimpanzees and orang utans and children as young as seven had fun snapping the penguins, and the delicate butterflies in Butterfly Forest.

Open to all, the aim of the competition was to encourage people to explore the challenges facing animals in the wild and the conservation efforts that are going into preserving wildlife for future generations. In addition to Bill Oddie and Twycross Zoo patron Professor Alice Roberts, the judging panel also included Twcyross Zoo CEO Sharon Redrobe and professional photographer Lucy Ray.

Sharon Redrobe, CEO of Twycross Zoo says: “Twycross Zoo is a fantastic place for photographers to come and take pictures and gather inspiration. We were thrilled to have so many people enter the photography competition in its first year and we hope our visitors will enjoy the winners’ exhibition.”
