Twycross Zoo is a registered charity (number 501841) which
exists to support conservation, education and research.
Reptiles are a class of animals that include snakes, lizards, crocodiles and tortoises. See below to find out which ones you can see on your visit to Twycross Zoo
Reptiles have dry, waterproof scales, most lay leathery eggs (some appear to give birth to live young as the offspring hatch out inside their mother), and they have to use behavioural control to regulate their body temperatures (such as basking in the sun) as they cannot control it internally – this is why they are often called cold-blooded. There is a big advantage to this – reptiles need to eat a lot less than mammals of the same size!
