Learning at Twycross is unique
Nothing compares to experiencing the real thing.
We provide interactive and exciting sessions for Key Stage Four students that fit in with all areas of the curriculum.
Our sessions are specially designed to inspire children about the natural world around them.
We offer a wide range of subject area so there is sure to be one that suits your needs.
Each session will be in one of our under-cover teaching classrooms with interactive facilities, will last between 45 and 60 minutes and can accommodate up to 30 children.
All sessions come with free resources for you to use on site or back at school to do post-visit work.
Ecosystems: Incredible Interactions
The students start by identifying levels of organisation within an ecosystem. They then discover how to measure species abundance and biodiversity. We consider biotic and abiotic factors, the role of micro-organisms, and interdependence. Finally we explore how humans rely on ecosystem services and the impact humans are having on global ecosystems.
Evolution and Classification
Students will explore the process of evolution through natural selection and evidence to support this. This session looks at the basics of genetics. Students will discover how and why we classify animals into groups.
Frankenscience: Right or Wrong?
Discuss how the application of science has shaped our modern world and how developments in biology such selective breeding can often raise questions about ethics. How science is applied in zoological organisation and debate to understand the ethical considerations of decision making.
‘Scientific Investigations – Animal Behaviour’
We will discover the difference between learned and innate behaviour, the advantages and disadvantages of social behaviour, and the different ways in which humans have attempted to communicate with apes. We will also discuss why understanding animal behaviour is important and how we can measure behaviour. The children will complete their own investigation out in the zoo which they will write up back at school.
Twycross Zoo career days give participants a taste of a zoo career along with important background information for the field. Select from: Zoo Keeper, Veterinary Practice, Zoologist, Conservationist
