Easter celebrations at Twycross zoo

Celebrate Easter with us at Twycross Zoo!Easter Trail back page

Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire joins in the Spring celebrations of new life with a fun activity-packed programme that extends over three weeks and offers great prizes to be won each day. Easter festivities at the zoo begin on Saturday 19 March with the opening of the Easter Egg Trail, which takes visitors on an exciting exploration of the zoo looking for eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny and learning more about the zoo’s animals.

Upon completion of the Easter Trail, visitors can enter a prize draw to win a 12-month Family Pass and a huge chocolate hamper, with winners being selected each day. Between 25 and 28 March, over the four Easter days each child that completes the trail will also get a bag of chocolate mini eggs. In addition, there will be face-painting stations around the zoo and the zoo’s Junior Club holds two week-long programmes full of exciting animal-themed activities.

There is so much more to do and see at Twycross Zoo with many new zoo babies and top-class facilities since last Easter. Some of the latest arrivals in the animal departments are the little male bonobo, who is yet to be named, his few-months older friend Ndeko, or a charming Red Titi monkey. Other youngsters are now swinging in the new Gibbon Forest, an innovative £2million development which opened in February this year.

With Spring finally under way, the zoo’s wet play area, the largest wet play site across Leicestershire which was refurbished in 2015, will now open again for the season. The shop in Himalaya Centre is currently in the last stage of refurbishment and will be offering animal-adoption packages and a great variety of animal-themed gifts and souvenirs. Twycross Zoo also extends its opening hours from Sunday 20 March, so that visitors can explore the zoo every day until 18.00.

Sharon Leeson, Director of Marketing says, “At Twycross Zoo we are always striving to improve our visitor experience, while also being committed to wildlife conservation and it is very exciting to see so many new developments already in place and other projects underway. Easter is a great time to learn more about nature and the animal kingdom and a visit to Twycross Zoo provides a fantastic opportunity for a fun-filled day out. We are looking forward to hosting our family-friendly activities during the Easter school break and showing the visitors our amazing animals, including the wonderful new baby bonobo.”

On Saturday 19 March Twycross Zoo is open to the public from 10.00 to 17.00. From Sunday 20 March the zoo stays open until 18.00. For more information and to book tickets visit www.twycrosszoo.org or call 0844 474 1777.
