Opening Times: 10am - 6pm

Charity Heart

Twycross Zoo is a registered charity (number 501841) which exists to support conservation, education and research.

Key Stage Three

Learning at Twycross is unique. Nothing compares to experiencing the real thing. We provide interactive and exciting sessions for Key Stage Three students that fit in with all areas of the curriculum.

Our sessions are specially designed to inspire children about the natural world around them.

We offer a wide range of subject area so there is sure to be one that suits your needs.

Each session will be in one of our under-cover teaching classrooms with interactive facilities, will last between 45 and 60 minutes and can accommodate up to 30 children.

All sessions come with free resources for you to use on site or back at school to do post-visit work.

Animals, Food and Humans

Explore how organisms are connected through food webs, and how pollinators affect food security. The students will learn about the pros and cons of pesticide use and GM food crops, and participate in a debate about the future of food.

Evolution, Variation and Extinction

Looks at the process of heredity and how variation occurs in a population and how this can affect the survival of individuals. The students will also explore how changes to the environment can affect wildlife, lead to extinction and what we can do to help.

‘Scientific Investigations – Animal Behaviour’

Discover why animals do what they do! In this session we will learn how to measure animal behaviour and discuss why understanding animal behaviour is important. The children will learn how to conduct their own investigation and collect their own data to take back to school.

Planet Earth

This session looks at the differences between animals in habitats across the world. We discuss the geography of the earth’s tilt and tectonic plates and how these have affected species variation globally!

Human Impact

In this session we discuss what the Earth is made of, the resources that we use on the planet and how humans and animals can have impacts on the environment.

What some of our visiting teachers have said about our workshops:

  • “All the children were focussed and engaged for the whole session”
  • “The teaching staff today were excellent, very enthusiastic!”
  • “Session was very interactive and relevant to their unit at school”
  • “Very well planned, an excellent addition to our trip”
  • “A must for any teacher wanting their zoo trip to have a real education focus”
