Key Stage Three
Learning at Twycross Zoo is special. Nothing compares to experiencing the real thing. We provide interactive and exciting sessions for Key Stage Three students linked to all areas of the curriculum.
Our sessions are specially designed to inspire pupils about the natural world around them. Pupils are guided through a 45-minute session by our experienced and award winning education officers. Each session is hosted in our under-cover teaching classrooms and can accommodate up to 30 pupils. All sessions come with free resources for you to use on site or back at school to do post-visit work.

Biodiversity and Conservation
This session will guide children on a journey through the natural world, exploring the importance of biodiversity, the role of the modern zoo, and most importantly how we can all conserve our planet’s amazing wildlife. Students can expect an exciting 45 minutes, packed with interactive discussions, opportunities to see rare artefacts and the chance to meet some of our fantastic small animals that will really get them engaged in conservation.
Evolution and Variation
In this session we will explore how animals have changed slowly over time, and discover the importance of variation. We will also discuss the importance of natural selection and how human activity can affect this natural process.
‘Scientific Investigations – Animal Behaviour’
In this cross curricular STEM session, focused on maths and science, pupils will take part in their own scientific investigation and learn how to measure animal behaviour – just like researchers in the zoo! Pupils will collect their own data to take back to school to continue the learning. Please note there are no live animals in this session.
Biodiversity and Conservation
Through games and investigations pupils will discover what biodiversity means, why all animals are important and how we can work together to save the natural world.
Careers at Twycross zoo
This 45-minute session will provide students with an insight to life at the zoo. During this session we explore the different roles of employees across the zoo. The session will focus on the day to day role of keepers, vets and educators and the different routes students can take to gain qualifications and experience needed for these future careers.
