This World Book Day, we are thrilled to be donating 500 books to primary schools across the UK, to help encourage children’s understanding of nature and conservation.
The books are featured in our brand-new reading list – ‘Essential Reads for Young Discoverers’ has been compiled by Twycross Zoo’s award-winning Discovery and Learning team. The specially-curated selection of books aims to support young children’s awareness of nature and conservation and to inspire them to take steps to help protect the planet.
Our recently commissioned research, revealed that only 16% of children have a strong understanding of how conservation efforts could help tackle climate change, showing that more needs to be done to educate the next generation on how they can help to protect our planet.
The survey also found that 85% of parents feel that imaginary characters from books, such as The Gruffalo, have a positive impact on children’s understanding of conservation, and play an important role in encouraging their children to care about wildlife.
Twycross Zoo is giving away 100 bundles of books to schools across the UK. Each bundle will include a selection of 5 books from the ‘Essential Reads for Young Discoverers’ list, this selection will be chosen by Twycross Zoo. Entries must be completed by a member of staff at the school or by another adult with permission to enter from the school. To enter the competition, entrants must complete all questions on the contact form above by 11.59pm on 31st March 2022. Entries after this date will not be considered. After the closing date, winning schools will be contacted by Twycross Zoo, if you have not heard back from Twycross Zoo by 15th April 2022 your entry has unfortunately not been successful. By entering the competition you warrant that you are aged 18 or over and an employee of the school applying to the giveaway. Information submitted through the entry process may be shared to Twycross Zoo’s social media channels, website and used in other marketing materials, such as, but not limited to your school name.
