A special surprise: Meet our newborn vicuña

We have the most wonderful surprise to share—our vicuña herd has welcomed a beautiful baby!

While we had our suspicions that mum was pregnant, vicuñas have an incredible ability to conceal their pregnancies, a natural defence against predators. So, we weren’t entirely sure until the moment she gave birth!

We were lucky enough to capture some heartwarming photos just 20 minutes after the birth.

A baby vicuña is called a cria—the same term used for baby llamas, alpacas, and guanacos. Our little one is already finding her feet, and we can’t wait for you to meet her!

This special arrival comes just after the birth of another incredible species at Twycross Zoo—the coppery titi monkey! With two heartwarming new additions, now is the perfect time to visit and see them for yourself. Plus, you’ll learn more about the vital conservation efforts helping to protect these species for the future.
