Twycross Zoo becomes the first UK stockist of Dr. Jane Goodall Barbie® Inspiring Women™ doll
Leading conservation charity, Twycross Zoo, has become the first UK stockist, other than Mattel, of the special edition Dr. Jane Goodall Barbie doll.
From today (Monday 15 August), Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire will be providing young animal-lovers and budding adventurers the opportunity to purchase the highly anticipated Dr. Jane Goodall doll from its on-site and online Gift Shop, which is the latest release of Barbie’s ‘Inspiring Women’ line-up.
The doll is available to buy for £59.99, and profits from every purchase will go towards supporting the Midlands-based conservation charity and the many endangered animals which they care for.
Paying tribute to the leading figure in conservation and animal-rights, the Barbie doll honours Dr. Jane Goodall in her khaki field shirt, shorts and boots, and comes equipped with a pair of binoculars and a notebook. The Dr. Jane Goodall doll is joined in the depiction by David Greybeard, the chimpanzee that became the naturalist’s muse and provided the groundwork for Goodall’s research papers about emotion and communication in animals.
Made from up to 75 per cent recycled ocean-bound plastic and certified Carbon Neutral, the newly released doll is a fitting homage to the naturalist who has inspired people across the world with her conservation work.
Dr Rebecca Biddle, director of conservation at Twycross Zoo, commented:
“Dr. Jane Goodall is one of the UK’s first female conservation scientists. Her lifelong passion, determination, and commitment to conservation is inspirational to us all. Her love of wildlife, in particular chimpanzees, was inspired in part by a chimpanzee cuddly toy she received as a child which I’m sure many of us can relate to.
“We hope that by making the Dr. Jane Goodall Barbie doll available to purchase hereat Twycross Zoo, we’re able to spread some of Dr. Goodall’s passion for wildlife and inspire more young children to learn about and get involved in conservation.”
Twycross Zoo is working at the forefront of conservation and making a global impact for endangered species around the world, from the very heart of the UK. Recognised globally as the ‘World Primate Centre’, the Leicestershire Zoo is home to one of the largest primate collections in Europe and the only zoo in the UK, and one of only four worldwide, where visitors can discover all four great apes – gorilla, orangutan, chimpanzee and bonobo.
The Dr. Jane Goodall Barbie® Inspiring Women™ Doll is available to purchase for £59.99 at Twycross Zoo’s on-site and online Gift Shop.
