National Science and Conservation Centre
The human impact on the world is taking its toll.
We need to take responsibility and drive action to restore the balance between animals and humans.
The National Science and Conservation Centre, based at Twycross Zoo, will make a significant contribution to the international conservation of biodiversity. This purpose-built centre will support conservationists and scientists around the world with a facility for both research and teaching. With the work supporting conservation; animal welfare; biosciences; STEM activities and public engagement with science it will significantly shape the outcomes of the global extinction crisis.
The National Science and Conservation Centre will enable academic research which will have international ramifications for conservation and bio-cultural environments.
New degrees programmes will be based over the cutting-edge campus, which boasts labs, lecture rooms and conference facilities.
The National Science and Conservation Centre will create a significant number of employee opportunities and provide a reduction in barriers to employment for local workers.
As Hinckley and Bosworth’s key tourism asset, a brand-new orangutan enclosure will further strengthen the visitor offer.
Twycross Zoo is working at the forefront of conservation from the very heart of the UK, leading collaborative investigative research projects and actively supporting local and international conservation partners. We also deliver an award-winning education programme reaching over 60,000 students of all ages every year.
The National Science and Conservation Centre will be adjacent to Twycross Zoo, which is ideally located in the centre of the UK easily accessible by great transport links from across the country.
This 200 seat lecture theatre, which can also be converted into two further teaching rooms, is connected to the adjacent orangutan enclosure to provide a unique study facility.
Classrooms will boast presentation/media facilities along with a computer laboratory, breakout spaces for meetings, and a cafeteria.
At the heart of the facility is a bio sciences laboratory enabling important research and conservation work to take place day to day.
The centre will provide a number of bedrooms to ensure researches and visiting professionals can stay if needed to complete longer functions and research projects.
