Providing access to animals and nature for all with our new 'Universal Credit Ticket'

5th Sept 2025

We're pleased to launch our new 'Universal Credit Ticket', giving families and individuals receiving income-related benefits the chance to enjoy a day out at our 100-acre zoo for £7 each.

This initiative is designed to make it easier for anyone facing financial challenges to spend a day surrounded by nature and animals - something we believe can support wellbeing at a time when the UK has seen a declining connection with nature.

Eligible visitors include those receiving Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Income Support, income-related Employment and Support Allowance and income-based Jobseeker's Allowance. Anyone wishing to take part in this offer can book the reduced-cost ticket online in advance of visiting, and then simply show proof of eligibility and photo ID at our admissions desk on arrival.

As part of our overarching mission to save species from extinction, we aim to inspire as many people as possible to love and protect wildlife. Last year, welcoming 700,000 people through our doors.

We hope that by providing more people across the UK with the opportunity to have a day out at the zoo and surround themselves with the wonders of the natural world, it will not only provide benefits to their wellbeing, but also support our mission and inspire more people than ever before.

In response to the launch Dr Rebecca Biddle, Chief Conservation Officer at Twycross Zoo said:

"We believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the joy of wildlife and the wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature. Our Universal Credit Ticket is one way we can open our doors to more people and provide moments of wonder, connection, and discovery for families who might otherwise find a trip to the zoo out of reach.

By welcoming more people to our zoo we hope to inspire them to care about endangered species and the natural world, and join us in our mission to protect it for the future.

We feel really privileged here at Twycross Zoo to be able to spend time with incredible species such as bonobos, Eastern black rhinos, Ecuadorian amazon parrots, European pond turtles, and many more, on a daily basis! We hope that this new ticket offering will allow more people to develop a passion and wonder for nature."

The £7 ticket, which reflects our mission to inspire and engage the widest possible audience in protecting the natural world, will allow visitors one-day entry to our 100-acre zoo.

As part of entry, visitors can enjoy our daily schedule of animal talks and feeds, discover hundreds of animals from some of the world's most endangered species, including the brand-new 'Close Encounters' habitat which opened in Easter 2025, burn-off some energy on numerous outdoor play areas, and explore our on-site Nature Reserve, a wetland habitat where our team work to protect the species right on our doorstep.

Anyone wishing to take part in this scheme can simply book their £7 zoo ticket by clicking here, and bringing relevant eligibility and ID with them on the day of their visit.
