Minbu joins Tara in Blackpool!

We have now successfully completed our second smooth Ele move, with Minbu, the Asian Elephant, packing her trunk and going to the brand new eclosure at the seaside. Minbu is part of the all-female, Twycross Zoo, Elephant herd that are being moved to Blackpool Zoo as part of an important breeding programme.

A particularly intense transfer as Minbu, the herds Matriach, took a few steps back after Tara left and as we are completely elephant led, we were all unsure whether Minbu would be happy to move on her scheduled moving day.

However the expert team around her ensured she was happy and confident and the move went without a hitch. You can read more about Minbu’s move day and loads more in the ele keeper diaries here.

Mother and baby duo, Noorjahan and Esha, will be the last to arrive, joining Minbu, Tara and their new Ele friend, Kate.

A departure date for the elephants is yet to be confirmed, as it completely depends on when they are ready. However, experts at the Zoo say visitors can still see the adorable pair for a little while yet!
